.......As title. I have been riding this dressage mare since March and am loving every single minute of it. She hasn't really put a foot wrong the whole time i've been riding her.

She is a 16.3 TB X warmblood mare. The only time you may get something with her is in the canter as sometimes she will do a bit of a leap into it and then a buck once you are in it.

I have been told by my instructor and friends and a few other people, including this dressage mare's owner that I have a good position. I think I do, I sit up tall, I do a lot of work without stirrups with G (coblet) to try and deepend my seat etc and he never does anything, apart from coming back from hacks he does get excited and goes from walk to gallop and can put in a buck if very excited. I have never had any trouble whatsoever sitting ANYTHING he has done, even the walk to gallop is fine. He is a 15hh cob (in my sig)

However, when I rode dressage mare last week, she did as she's done before and put in a leap in the upward transition and then a buck once we were about 4 strides into the canter, she hadn't been ridden in 2 weeks and she is only 6. I sat the buck, but bloody hell it was a big one. I have now realised that sitting things that a 15 hander puts in and holding that together is TOTALLY different from what a 16.3 does and is A LOT harder to hold together and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

I didn't come off or anything in the buck, in fact I don't think I really moved that much out of the saddle, but I ALMOST lost my left stirrup and I really think that if she'd have put in another one or another 2 in i'd have hit the deck.

About 5 weeks ago, this mare's owner's friend came down to have a ride on her as her own horse was lame. She immediately got on, took away her stirrups and gave her a smack on the backside, to which she got an almighty buck in repsonse, she had no stirrups whatsoever and did not move an inch out of the saddle

This girl is an incredible rider, a lot better than me, but I guess if you were to look at both of us riding this mare, we both have similar positons etc. Yet I nearly lost a stirrup and became unseated with one buck and she had no stirrups with one buck and didn't so much as move a millimetere in the saddle, the only thing I can say is the other girl is about 5'8 and i'm 5.3 so her legs are longer than mine and she was able to sit around the mare more.

It's just got me thinking, how come some people literally have glue on their backsides and can sit ANYTHING and then others, like me, cant. Is there anything I can do to try and improve my stickability?? I LOVE riding this mare and am learning so much, however it would just be nice to know if she was to really put on her parts that I may not be landing face first.....or maybe I just have to accept I will!
