Ok, my puppy is not particularly human orientated....... like AT ALL!

He's happy your there, but if you weren't its not the end of the world.

Although our training is going well, not perfect, but well! He is still not that into having cuddles, or being that close... if that makes sense?

I know some dogs innatly WANT cuddles and attention 24/7, and I am kind of happy that Beau doesn't want that as I want him to be a dog as well.

However, I would like to think that I have a relationship with my dog which is not just I say do this and he does it...... Id like to think that I am someone he wants to be around and with etc...... but how do I improve this relationship without feeling like I am nagging him to be more cuddly etc?

Any advice? or is this a really stupid question?!

thanks x

Not a silly question but I have no advice I am afraid apart from can I swop half of my puppys temperamant with yours??? Mine is human obssessed and has to say hello excitedly to every single person he meets, goes mental at the door when we leave him or come back and cuddles up as close as he can get all night

In fact I was going to do a post about how I can calm him down - the exact opposite of yours!!!

Lol, right, well il give you mine for a week and you will crave the love and adoration from yours I am sure!!

Its not that Beau doesn't EVER have cuddles etc, but its only when he REALLY feels like it, and that is very rare!!

however it does mean I don#t have the anxiety issues etc if I leave him for a period of time or anything like that which is good! Although sometimes I wish I could tell if he missed me or not (if that makes sense!)

I would rather not have the seperation anxiety, Otto LOVES people, he adores attention, much more than he likes other dogs in fact.
A few weeks ago OH and I were in the garden, the gate hadn't been secured, we we're planting pots and were only going to be 10 mins, so left Otto in the house. Cue me glancing up to see Otto sat in the kitchen sink contemplating jumping out the window to get to us!!!! The drop is about 15ft!!

It is nice having a snuggly pup though!

Ye my friends spaniel is like that! he will settle but is much happier when you are there!
and I am sure beau is happier when people are with him, but he just doesn't......... show it! (if that makes sense) like he doesn't come for cuddles, except to people who have been out all day and if im honest it kind of breaks my heart coz its like WHY are you so excited to see them but then so UNinterested in me?! which kind of answers my own question doesn't it?!

Good job otto didnt do a 15ft dive however!

I just want a cuddle every now and then!

sounds like a typical collie to me loves you ocassionaly.... but way more intrested in work and the world around them!!they seem to be designed that way...is he from working stock?
my uncle has had them for years for sheep and out of the 9 or 10 only 2 have been all that intrested in ppl(sammy and Dusty) and being fussed.1 was out and out dangerous(aggresive) and the others let you pet them but were way more intrested in work..
the only way to their hearts was playing football with them..and even then they got bored real quick

Our older dog was and his still like this (he's 12 now), he' s a proper toughie really (think he is collie x some type of terrier), he was a rescue and had been found under a hedge. I think he just is very independent and sees people as there to feed him and that's about it!

He likes us definitely and he can be playful and silly but he's never been cuddly unlike our female dogs we've had, he's more cat like in his temperament and would probably be quite happy living 'wild' just to come in and be fed, although he'd happily make do killing and eating rabbits! I have to say though he is v v intelligent and communicates amazingly with his eyes as to what he wants and lets you know when you guessed right! He is a very quick learner and was so easy to train. He's a real character and I wouldn't change him at all.

We wind him up by asking him to give us a 'kiss' on the cheek, he is hilarious and always will give you a 'look' and on the odd occasion you may be lucky enough to him to oblige after much persuasion!

Yes both parents are working stock, and doesnt he let you know it if something worth chasing is around!!!

Its defo fuss when he feels like it, dont bother when not sort of dog!
We have an indestructaball from pets at home which he likes, and will play with, and tennis balls in the house he loves, but out on walks, hes not that fussed by them (strange animal!)

He is not dangerous or remotely aggressive, he has an amazing personality, a total softy, even when like toddlers come up (wihtout permission) and start "patting" his head etc he just kind of puts up with it, then licks them then walks off! Never had any personality probs, just want to know how to make me seem more appealing to him than other dogs or just everything else in the world! lol

Ye, we are learning the kiss command at the moment, if you have cheese, or any food, he will oblige (most of the time).... sometimes its up the nose rather than on the cheek however! lol

Hes always been good to train in the house (outside its a bit of a different story!) But our cats are more cuddly than he is! (however our cats are big puffs and could lie on the sofa all day and be loved if we let them!)

Its just like one cuddle a day would suffice! but im lucky if its 1 cuddle a week sometimes! its like DAMN IT LOVE ME! grrr (how backwards is this?!)
