My two year old Shetland colt has become very bored recently, and he's acting out because of it.

He's a clever boy so his mind gets bored quickly, and he acts like a bored child wanting to cause havoc because he doesn't have anything to do!

I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do with him to keep him happy? I take him out on walks etc. but he wants something to make him think, and I'm reluctant to lunge him more than ten minutes tops as he's still developing and I've been told it's not great for them to do more than that at his age.

Any ideas? Exercises, tricks, training? All suggestions welcomed!

I had to have my 2YO gelded because he was just too busy and exuberant - and he has 2 field companions. The very best thing for them is similar aged company - if a colt, he obviously needs another colt or a gelding. I was told, if they don't have a horse to play with they will try to play with you instead - and a horse (even a shetland) rearing at you and trying to bite your forelegs is no joke!
