how to keep from going insane!?

i'm playing a waiting game, waiting to see whether i can ride my horse soon without the need for a (kissing spine) operation and am going mad!
i haven't ridden in a month and i'm getting really fed up =[. he hates being groomed and fussed over and would much rather be left alone to eat his hay, so i find myself wandering around the yard aimlessly!

what can i do to fill the time i should be riding (other than the obvious poopicking...)!?

ummm boring but worthy tack cleaning, making or repainting show jumps, repainting tack room, cleaning stable windows, mending any broken stuff, clearing out clutter?

i feel for you! i am waiting to find out if my mare has kissing spine and im lost 2! she is an exrace horse so i sent her away to a top local yard for reschooling and she started to have problems.
she is on a full package which the yard insist on so i am totally lost cant even muck out of groom as if i groom her she goes mad.

i have cleaned all tack ect and now just take her for a steady walk and feel totally useless.

she is my 1st horse and used to doing everything so even more at a loss.

fingers crossed the xrays are ok as we wouldnt be able to afford the op and the waiting to find out is driving me totally mad with worry.

depending on the size/setup at your yard you could always offer to help others with bits and pieces that need doing or you could find a riding school and have the odd lesson so you get some time in the saddle.
