Having a lot of probs with my long Tuffies. They never have been waterproof even tho the lady in the shop told me that they were. I've been reproofing with the nicwax in a tube between twice a week & once a fortnight dep on use, using plenty, paying particular attention to the seams...& the bl**dy things STILL leak.

We're not talking knee deep mud here...mostly dog walking on wet verges. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong as they weren't cheap & they're driving me mad... Thank you...

I don't know as I've never had leather wellies. But for short boots I use Dubbin - get from Sainsbury's. It's like Vaseline for boots!

My Mountain Horse short boots were always so plastered in mud that I think they got protection from that, but on occasion I'd pick it off, scrub them up and then dubbin them liberally. That did the trick.

I second dubbin - much cheaper too!

My friend had the same problem and was also told by the shop that they were waterproof - not!

She has not had a problem since using dubbin.

I third Dubbin, fantastic stuff

Great - I'll get some then! I saw some Gold Label dubbin in the tack shop - £4 for a big tub - but I didn't buy it cos it didn't have any instructions on the tub!!

Got to be worth a go as I'm fed up with the wet feet.

Thankies everyone!

Dubbin is a good idea, most things that are stitched whether leather boots or horses (material) rugs can leak through the stitches, that's where the holes are after all!
