My coloured mare always manages to get her feet dirty in the stable the night before a show. This year I am going to chalk them the night before, because she has a yellow stain which NEVER washes out (suggestions on that much appreciated too!) but what can I cover up her socks that is safe? I have never used stable bandages.

Thanks :D

Rather than using chalk which i dont personally like go to your local agricultural store and buy 'sheep face whitener' apply over legs when they are wet after washing then bandage with a bandage pad then fleece bandages and leave overnight. When you take them off in the morning give a brush through and voilaa the whitest legs you have ever seen!

I use kids legwarmers & then put his travel boots on overnight too xx

 mine wouldn't move the whole night if I left his travel boots on :D

I would just get some spot remover/whitener and do them like that - or suck it up and re wash in the morning, dry whilst travelling and brush when you get there. I wouldn't want to make my horse uncomfortable just for my vanity, but then I'm not really a showing person - thank god, I have a grey! :D :D :D

A nice deep clean straw bed and a good wash the night before is my secret weapon. If ever I bandage she'll get really pooey on her hocks and knees and may even throw her neck in for good measure! So I dont find it makes a difference - but then mine has white legs rather than just socks.

I then allow extra time in the morning to tackle the stains before we set off, a firm brush and then stain remover with hot water gets them clean again, it's a constant battle but I've found this minimises it

I use normal fleece stable bandages with slightly longer than usual padding so the coronet band & knees & hocks have a bit of protection too. If you haven't bandaged though either ask someone to do it for you or use leg wraps

If you haven't bandaged before i wouldn't use them as they can cause serious damage if applied incorrectly.
It sounds like some stable wraps would be ideal for you, like these: http://www.equi1.com/en/stable-wraps/134-equilibrium-stable-chaps.html

Just velcro on & off :):D

If you want to go down the bandage route get someone experienced to show you how to do it :)

My sister is a vet and she'll show me how to put bandages on.

Tinap555, I don't think Milly would enjoy having travel boots on all night!

I'm going to go with a good scrubbing and then putting on a white paste and then gamgee underneath fleece bandages, with a deep straw bed! Failing that, I have cowboy stain remover!

Thanks!
