I'm kind of excited because for an early joint christmans/b-day pressie, I'm getting a Stubben Siegfried MF Special jumping saddle on tuesday for my pony! I rode today in my trainer's one which happens to be in the same size as I'll need so I know it suits us - I feel more secure in it than I did in my old VSS.

Anyway, those with stubben stuff, do you think that I'll have to use Stubben cleaning products and Hamanol to clean it instead of my usual tack cleaner? I don't want to ruin it, especially because I've heard that the tan underside of the Siegfried can get a tie-dye effect if it's not looked after properly. I was going to ask the rep. but I think he'll be biased, especially because they apparently get paid through comission.

 So what do you all think? Only Stubben stuff, or will my usual do (no particular brand, just depends on what my local tack shop happens to have)?

Thanks in advance :)

Personally, I'm not a fan of Hamanol. Smells like bacon & way too greasy IMO. I've used Horse Fitform leder-seife (comes in orange tub) to clean and Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Preservative to condition, or their leather oil instead of neatsfoot if needed. Both last for ages, and with the Obenauf's a very little goes a very long way. Don't know if you'd be able to get these here though.

OK thank you! :)

I wasn't sure whether it was a "con" for stubben to get more money out of me, so I'll just use what's left of my Jeffries natural care - so thanks for the peace of mind!

orsolya80 - thanks for the Hamanol tip and I'll check out the Obenauf stuff

irish_only - I'm hoping that it'll fit my future horses (I'm on a pony now), and I've been told my my parents that I've got to clean lots of dishes and do all the other little grungy jobs that no one wants to do until Christmas - it's a bit of a treat considering the pony is only going to be with use for another 18 months or so until I'm out of ponies :(
