Hi Guys,

I have just added a new supplement into my horse's feed (I only added a bit to get her used to it) but as it turns out she either doesn't like the smells or the taste. What can I put in there to make her eat it? It's a a herb that is used as a natural calmer and if she doesn't have it I'm worried she'll hurt herself. For those reasons I'm not keen on putting molasses or sugary stuff in there. I was thinking maybe Alfa beet or something like that?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lucy

cider vinegar
mint powder

What else is she eating with it atm?

I have a rather fussy lad but he devours the agrobs aspero like he has never eaten before since I made him go more sugar free ;).

I'm guessing its valerian which pongs, like sweaty feet, eurgh!! A few mints won't make any difference to her, so if you put some in a mug and melt with boiling water and allow to cool you might find this works when mixed into her feeds. You can get peppermint cordial from the larger supermarkets, and mix a drop of that in the feed or some peppermint essence from the baking section of your suppermarket which is less sugary still.

You could try apple juice, guiness or a little bit of marmite (some horses love this!).

My horse hated valerian too.

That's a great idea, she loves extra strong mints, I'll give that a go :) I might grab some ale as well because they say that hops is a good calmer ;) thank you so much
