Hello, I was just looking for some advice. I currently get weekly riding lessons (weather dependent) but I feel like I want to progress further in riding and possibly make a career out of it. I am quite into dressage but I am not sure what steps I should take into progressing further so any ideas would be appreciated.

See if you can volunteer at a yard/riding school for experience. It would look good on an application if you decided to pursue equine studies of some sort or try get a placement somewhere

the only way you can progress your riding is spending more hours in the saddle, lessons are invaluable in the early days! Make sure you are training with an instructor you get on with, the horses are suitable and you feel you get value for money.

If you can, have a couple of lessons a week or maybe a long hack out at the weekend just so you’re spending more time on a horse.

hope that helps! Good luck :)

Can you join a local pony club centre? You can volunteer through them for your Young Equestrian Leaders Award which always looks good - as well as giving brillliant contacts and experience. You can also take your efficiency tests through pony club and then intermix them with the BHS stages or UKCC if you want to go that way. Plus pony club is just great fun! Look on the PC webesite for your nearest centre.

If parents / funds permit (and probably not this year for obvious reasons) you can do 2 and 4 week intensive residential courses. Thats really good just for hours in the saddle and making progress. But they are expensive. or, if you join pony club, just go to pony club camp!
