I posted these photos (below) some time ago, my filly has been suffering from vitiligo, got vet coming to her again Monday for a re-check, now the hair on her muzzle is re-growing but it coming back with white flecks, which on a jet black face doesn't really do much for her, but the skin/hair round her eyes is yet to come back, its worse now than when the photo was taken, now I have to be honest I am terrified that it will come back white as her face/head, besides her blaze is jet black and I personally think she'll look dead ugly with big panda eyes

please help, is there something I can put round her eyes to promote the black re-growth ?

It cannot be done im afraid. There is a change in the cell make up and amount of melanin produced by melanocyes causing the colour change in viteligo. So any product that claims to "fix" it is most likely lying or perhaps dying the hair

As far as i know cosmetic surgery is about the only way for humans to counteract it(think michel jackson and his all white skin rather than having patches)but that wouldnt be offered for horses.

Its not really damaging your filly so leave well enough alone she will still look fine regardless of her spotting.

Whatever you do dont put something like camrosa cream or an irritant cream near your horses eyes or on her vitiligo...the area around a horses eye's is very sensitive and has very thin skin its easy to irritate.

You could try asking your vet to see what they say but as far as im aware its not fixable.

we used to have a horse who had white flecks on her face, we added a black powder (can't remember what it was) when she was out competing so it looked all black.
but to be honest - white hairs - so what? doesn't stop her being who she is and doesn't stop her performing...

It wont change her personality of course - she's a cow and thats the way we love her but she has done really really well in the showing world this last year gone - ok so its not the end of the world if she cant be shown again but it would be nice to show her - maybe something temporary like the black powder Peacelily mentioned could help for her showing outings.

thanks for the advice one and all.

You could try seaweed as a supplement to her feed, something similar happened to my yearling filly in the summer, dont know what caused it but all the hair came off of one side of her face and around her muzzle, and it has grown back with white flecks in she is black as well, I started to add seaweed to her feed and it didnt get any worse but how much the seaweed helped I am not sure, I hope it works. I know what you mean about the white flecks but it wont stop her being the horse you love and if you want to show her you can always buy black horse make up which works.
