i have a lovely 12.2hh 5 year old pony who was backed at the beginging of the year. hes coming on really well!! i decided to get a sharer for him as i have 2 and having someone to help took the pressure off. however since i got my sharer (who is a lovely girl, honestly shes good fun) my pony has been bolshy, spooky, and rude. hes fine when im on top. he trys it on then he gives up. however in the last 2 rides, my sharer has fallen off. one of which ment he was galloping down a busy road. and now hes getting really unsettled.

now my 2nd horse is going, i have the time to spend on my little one again. i want to get on with it now and get him fit and schooling ready to hunt at the end of the year. however i feel like my sharer and my pony just havent clicked. i dont know what to say to her, or how to say it without causing upset. like i said, shes a brilliant girl. we do have a contact written up and i can end it with a months notice. but how would you go about saying it?

Simply it's not working out. It's fine to say they're not clicking, not every horse is suitable for everyone and as she has already had an accident she will probably already feel this. And you can't risk her being in danger because of it.

Yeah, Its really difficult! I have thought about getting a sharer for my daughters pony as she starts secondary school in September and he could do with doing a bit more now being only 4 He'd also benefit from being ridden by an adult to help with his greeness (although he is safe and well behaved) But i m so worried i will get someone who i know is no good for him and will have to say something!
I think in your situation 2 falls and the galloping on the busy Rd thing has to mean something- say now before she or your pony get injured- or before all your hard work is undone and you end up with problem pony!
Could she ride your other horse ever?

How old is the girl in question? Would it be worthwhile talking to her parents? Certainly having fallen on the road I would have considered both her & the pony's safety at risk and would have thought that you are certainly within your rights to call a halt to things due to safety concerns!
