and get more enthusiam for riding, any suggestions?

I've ridden for over 20yrs now and owned my horse for 17. He wasn't an ideal first horse and I'm not the most confident rider so we haven't really gone out and competed. I'm not a competitive person but i would like to do something other than hack. We do like the long distance pleasure rides. Most of the time I hack out by myself, which I'm not a fan of. So basically I have literally stopped riding (

Anyone else lost the momentum but wishes they rode more? Any ideas to set some targets to aim for. I have the chance of a ride who I could SJ if we get on and my horse if fit would still do a pleasure ride but how do I get round hacking alone all the time. I have the luxury of having my horse at my parents so costs are low but there are disadvantages!

Love the thought of doing something but not the idea of riding alone. sigh.

Sounds like it might be an idea to try riding a few different horses - dare I say it - at a riding school ? Maybe have a few lessons (which I desperately need tbh), and see if the bug grabs you again ? Could changing yards and finding new scenery help ? Borrowing a horsebox and driving somewhere new ?

Sorry not much help, hope more inspiration to follow !! sm x

Have you thought about putting an add up in the local tack shop or feed merchant etc for a hacking partner? Could you join the local riding club you would have to compete but could go to some demonstrations or schoolings days they have either with or without your own horse just to be in the enthusiatic atmosphere? or offer your help at some of thier shows i find being at a show when i am not competing really makes me want to get in he saddle. Maybe having a riding buddy you could spur each other on to rekindle the enjoyment you once had. Hope something above is helpful.

How about setting yourself a challenge so you've got something to aim for? You could plan a long distance ride over a few days or something that needs you and the horse to be fit? Le trec might be something you'd enjoy?

I agree about advertising for a hacking buddy, it can make a huge difference having somebody to share your exploits with.
