Yep I know they are licenced by local council etc (btw not approved by anyone else in this case)

But there are things going on there which just don't sit right.

Went yesterday with a 'friends child' and watched-omg! Can't say too much but if you can point me in the direction of ......

Have looked at the local councils webby and can't see 'riding schools inspector' type thing!

Help! Pm me if you prefer

cheers

It's the environmental health department that issue licences.

They know absolutely nothing about horses so you are most probably wasting your time with them.

If it's a welfare issue you are better off contacting the BHS welfare department

Chat with your local council and go through your concerns with them first. BHS welfare department may have to be your next port of call. However, some things we don't like may not be considered a welfare concern by them. Good luck

Some local councils may do their own inspections, others have a tame vet or someone else who does them on an ad hoc basis. It's quite a few years since I ran a riding school that was inspected but I well remember the rigour of the Council inspection (carried out by a horsey vet) as compared to the BHS inspection, which was a bit of a breeze by comparison.

If it's a welfare problem, then you'll find MOST councils have a welfare type within the Trading Standards office. If it's more a poor teaching/safety issue, there is probably SOMEONE within the Trading Standards office who knows enough to either check it out themselves, or find someone to do it on their behalf.

So start with local Council - and don't let them fob you off!

Thanks for all your help

No bhs approved hence why I think things are awful there.

Will start with welfare dept as well

Hopefully someone will go out there and point everyone in the right direction
