Eeek!!

Just walked my course for Stafford today and there is a corner fence in it, now the last time we attempted a corner she tried to run out, I said 'no you don't'

and turned her into the wider part so she couldn't run out, and we hit it quite hard.

So with the wide part of the corner on the left and the narrow on the right? How would you jump it.!!

I thought that before it i should collect my canter a bit more, then aim straight for the middle and not the narrow side (which she may dive out at). Would this be correct?

what level is it?
below Novice, i ride it like a normal parallel tbh, with whip (if i have one) in hand to side of point. if horse is naughty i might aim slightly away from point, it's unlikely to be wide enough for this to be a problem.
when walking course i try to make sure i have something to line up with in the distance behind it to get correct line, if it's a particularly wide/big one calling for real accuracy.
if it's narrowish front to back i'd get square to the front on one that had tried to run out last time, and then ride forward to it with a definite channel of both legs to both hands.. hope that helps a bit!

Ok hope this makes sense:

Bisect the angle then ride at a line at right angles to to it.

You need to aim at a point where you are happy with the width but not so far to the corner that you are risking a run out.

Always put your whip in the running out side well before the turn.

I pick a point on the jump to aim at and a point in the distance (always something permanent) and line the two up on the approach.

Try to show jump it ie powerful bouncy canter, make sure you ride the corner on the approach and really have your legs wrapped round your horse.

Hope this helps!! Good luck.

Unless its mega wide, i would just ride the 'front rail' like you would any normal fence... but just be catious that the horse may be drawn out.

Is there the alternative this year? I know the corner and would ride at the front edge like a parallel, its not wide but is narrow, so ride it like that (slightly angled away from the point) and you'll be ok

Yes, there is an alternative this year. Just wanted to give the corner a try because I need to challenge myself a bit more instead of taking the easy option. And since the challenge is quite a small yet narrow corner I have told myself to give it a go. Thanks KatB will think like its a parellel.

Agree with others - if it's not to wide - spread wise, then ride it like a parallel it was amazing the number that had run outs in the BE90 at a corner at Cumwhinton, when at it's widest the spread was only about 3ft 3! Best of luck
