We haven't been through the usual pony club channels so am a touch ignorant but can anyone explain the correct way to salute the judge in a lead rein class? Does the leader have to salute too? Also the bow at the end - is that simply a case of both leader and rider nodding the head at the end? Many thanks in advance!

Both the rider and leader salute the Judge. The leader generally nods (men tend to touch their hat) and the boy riders nod, girl riders salute with their arm and nod. If that makes sense?!?!

Saluting twice.

The basic structure of a Lead Rein class goes:

Enter at walk on the right rein.
Whole class proceeds to walk round the ring.
At a designated corner the steward will stop you so you all stand in line round the edge of the ring.
One at a time each pony trots round the esge of the ring.
The ring size dictates whether you trot 1.5 sides or 2.5 sides and how many ponies are in the ring so you don't trot into them.
So trot your wee bit. Stop. Salute.
Proceed at walk to the back of the line.

All walk round and wait to be called into the line.

Insividual show:
Walk up and stand side on the the judge.
Handler usually stands in front of the pony whilst the judge asks the kid a few questions.
When asked walk straight away, trot straight back to the judge then proceed to trot a figure of 8.
After the 2nd loop of trot keep going down the edge of the ring until you are almost level with the judge.
Stop. Salute.
