Honey had an operation yesterday to remove a lump from her bum. It all went well and she came home yesterday a bit groggy and wobbly. She slept well last night, but has woken up really sore today. Its an awkward sore, as its obviously sore when she goes to the loo.. She keeps sitting on it and trying to drag herself around - like a dog with worms. Occasionally it must twinge, as she literally runs in panic (within the house - not allowed off the lead for 10 days). You can calm her down with cuddles, but its a bit upsetting.

She is on antibiotics, but I've not been given any pain killers, and it looks like she could do with some really. Any suggestions? If she is no better tomorrow I will give the vet a ring. He doesn't live too far from here and often pops round.. OH thinks I'm worrying a bit too much. It doesn't look septic or anything.

Thanks for reading!xx

Edited to say that she is a big lab.

i would be ringing the vet and asking for a pain killer. I had tramadol for cara before, just 50mg, so i know it is quite effective. when you say her bum, if she sits, is she sitting on the stitches?

I'll give him a ring tomorrow. She cant get at the stitches (as far as I can see) but keeps trying. I'm also a tad concerned as our house is in the middle of being done up, so all the carpets are up and there is a lot of bare concrete.

At the mo she is on the settee (not always allowed) in front of the log fire and has been still for a few hours now.

Hmmm perhaps he didnt give her pain killers for a reason. You say she isnt allowed off the lead so im guessing he doesnt want to mask the pain as it might mean she rampages around and causes more damage? Just a thought as I would have thought most vets would have given pain killer post op for pretty much anything so surely there has to be method in the madness?

He is the best vet and I have total confidence in him. She is a total wuss with pain in general compared to the other dog.

We had a really rough night though last night. She got really upset before bedtime, and ended up outside our bedroom door throwing herself against the door. We ended up with her sleeping in with us, but she was very restless and constantly trying to lick her bottom. She spent most of the night sitting up, right on her sore. I finally got her to sleep this morning and left her until 11. When I had a look at her then, I noticed that she has popped all the stitches. :(:(:( So am now waiting for the vet to call on his way home, and and gutted that (I presume) she will have to have another anasthetic and be stitched up again. Not a happy house!
