how to stop horse eating wood

My horse is in a little pen at the mooment as he has a bone chip. He has loads to keep him occupied all day (haylage, treat ball, swedes, readigrass etc) but chewing chunks out of the fence seems to be most fun!!
I have cribox'ed all the rails which has worked but hes always coming in with a really sticky neck where he is obv leaning on/thru the fence
is there anything else I can use to stop him chewing it that wont make him sticky! Wanted cresote but cant seem 2 get it any more

Ps he is on a general vit and mineral suppliment so am pretty sure hes not deficient in anything

We use a cresote substitute which we get from Horse requisites in Newmarket. Perhaps you can find something similar?

This might sound a bit yukky but we have rubbed their own droppings on areas we don't want them to chew and it has worked! Otherwise there is some NAF No Bite I have tried before but not sure if that is for rugs only.

mine have started eating their way out of the day-yard.i am going to run some leccy fence around with the insulaters you screw in.

My mare doesn't like salt licks so when she started chewing the wood in her stable, I got a brush and some water and wet a salt lick the old inhabitant left in the stable, wet it and rubbed it on the bits of wood she kept chewing. Because she doesn't like salt licks she stopped eating the wood

If it turns out your horse doesn't like salt licks either, this might work for you

I second Vlhieaston. Go and find a decent sized log (not from a poisnous tree obviously) and put it in the pen. I once had a cribber on my yard - he made such a mess of the stable and fenceposts that he was the last cribber I would have on any of my yards. Anyway, what we did was find a couple of big logs; one went in his 16 X 14 stable and the other in his paddock - they worked a treat! He stopped doing any more damage to my property.

Mind you, log or not, I still would never have another cribber or windsucker on my yard again.

Yeah, I was gonna say give him a branch too! I give mine branches (safe ones obviously) and they all love stripping the bark off them.
