Can anyone give me advice on how to stop my 6 month old Whippet puppy jumping up?

He doesn't really do it with me, or when he's on the lead, but if visitors come to the house or he's running free on a walk, he'll make a bee-line for other walkers and jump up, wanting to play.

He just ignores me if I call him away and I'm generally not close enough / or quick enough to stop him. When he's on the lead I give him a sharp yank and that has pretty much stopped him in that situation.

Any tips would be gratefully received.

My dog used to do this. I arranged to have friends meet me on a walk and when he ran ver and jumped up(he didnt know them) they kneed him. not like a good kicking just a knee to the sholder. he only did it twice and hasnt done it since

Same here :D

I call it the Marley technique, :p If he comes at you/friend, gently knee him .

Both mine had this treatment and both seemed very confused when it happened. But don't do it now.

If your dog goes to jump up, just turn you back immediately, make no eye contact and do not speak at all, and do not react. Every single time it goes to jump turn your back. That will stop it.

the turning away works well. I always follow that up by a sit command and then make lots of fuss. Now my dog comes over to say hi and always sits immediately rather than jumping up.
