I have decided this year that I don't want the horses half bald by the end of the winter.

Has anyone come up with a solution to the problem of full neck rugs removing the mane?

I have tried show sheen in the mane and stitching shiny fabric into the rug along the mane but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone make a neck cover/hood type thing that prevents rubbing.

I don't want to turn out in anything with a lycra face cover.

Also 1 horse is a bit fussy about he head/ears being touched so it must be easy to put on.

I am amazed that I can't seem to find a solution as at early season events all the horses seem to be missing a section of mane.

Spider has a Mark Todd neck rug stable (this has an attachable one) & turnout which has NEVER rubbed her man out, it has a gullet in it around the wither area, it fits great and is very warm, cant praise it enough!

Dexter has a Masta and although he has only had it on 5 weeks or so it hasnt rubbed a hair either.

I had a full neck jumpers TO (same as Mark todd) and my mare had it on all winter without a problem. It also has the gusset at the base of the neck. This is also good as when they put their head done it still covers the whole neck

I use Weatherbeeta Orican and Landa full neck turnouts, and the Weatherbeeta full neck stable rugs and none of my horses have ever had their mane rubbed. I wonder if you try a bigger size rug it might not be so tight on the mane? Just a thought?

I have 4 horses, all different shapes and all in either Fal or Rambo rugs. They all get rubbed! Whether they be thin or fat, long manes or short! Full neck or removable neck rugs.

The rugs all fit perfectly and do not move or slip. They do not pull tight either, even whilt grazing.

All my friends have the same problem too.

Those that don't have this problem are very lucky.

You can get a lycra neck cover without hood as I am guessing you want to avoid the full face.

Can you use lycra hoods when you are turning out? I thought they werent reccomended?

I'm not sure about using one on spooks because he loved rolling in wet mud and with lycra not being waterproof he would spend the whole day with wet lycra on
