How to stop my horse chewing the stable door ??

Is there anyone who has a horse who chews/bites there wooden stable door ? Note that he doesnt actually 'crib bite' he just sort of scrapes his teeth on it. Does anyone know of stuff that actually works and breaks the habit ? I have tried afew sprays but they havnt seemed to work - dont think he noticed the difference !
 
Years and years ago at a yard I volunteered at we had a horse do this so the manager trickled some pepper sauce on the top of the door. The horse soon stopped but I'm not so sure it's a good thing to do because Tobasco is really strong. I've also heard that sometimes horses get more stressed when you stop them doing things like this so unless it's doing damage I'm not sure I'd try. Only other suggestion would be a metal door topper.
 
Ok - this is quite a revolting (but free) solution and you may not want to try it - but I have seen it work

You mix your horses droppings :eek: with water to create a watery substance and you wipe that over the top and upper edges of the door or wherever the nibbling occurs.

It smells revolting when you do it but it has solved the problem for two horses I know - one nibbled everything in sight and the other one cribbed. The owner of these horses also found that nothing shop bought worked. An old horsey fellow told her this trick and blow me down if it didn't stop immediately! chuckle. And who can blame them?!

Caught my horse having a sneaky nibble of the top of the kick boards yesterday, and painted a bit of Hoof Moist along the top - it was the smelliest thing I had to hand! He went to have another gnaw - got a taste of it, pulled a face, and hasn't touched it since.

I have ordered him a salt rock to play with instead.
 
My ex racer windsucked. I took his door away and replaced it with a rubber door chain. He can't suck on it and seems to be forgetting about it all together now. Only safe on secure enclosed yard I guess. We lock our feed room when he's in so if he does escape he can't get off yard or eat anything too bad.
