My big Rottie is a gentle soul, and takes treats very carefully. I can even feed him individual peas between finger & thumb. However, puppy will have my hand off. She's not aggressive in other ways, but will grab at any food offered.

How do I stop her doing this? She is not worried about Kane getting the treat first as we have always been careful not to let him intimidate her, and she will snatch even if he's nowhere near.

Chloe and Brax are similar-I think it's partially just puppy behaviour. I just make sure that he doesn't get anything if he snatches or snaps-and I also try to put the treat in the palm of my hand so he doesn't get my fingers! Xx

I held treats mostly hidden in my hand so the pups couldn't grab them and feed it through the hand til most of it is visible. When they went to take it, I'd hold onto it and not let go til they stopped, a bit confused, bless, giving the 'gently' command the whole time.

Big dog needs an occasional reminder but a verbal command is obviously enough to make him stop.

What CT said.

My rottie x is the softer than my springer x (ouch he hurts)

Did I mention that we need photos here??

I have done it kind of not intentionally but they do both know "gently" (done how CT says). I just say it when they are having a treat (when not training sessions etc)

Oh and that I might have a small rottie obsession......

I teach the leave it command, Darcy would have your hand off otherwise, when they go to snatch it say leave it, they tend to back off click & treat. This is a very useful exercise because it can be used for lots of other things, we have used it on the pup when she was nibbling/play biting and when she jumps up.
