Hi,

I have a close contact jumping saddle (unbranded but stamped made in Wasall) I know its not flocked but is there a way to tell if the panels are either Foam, Felt & Foam or Felt & Flock?

I only fit flocked saddles, I have worked on, and know how to spot, a foam panelled saddle, but the combos you're talking about may well need to have the panel dropped to be sure. Can you contact a local master saddler and have them look at it? If you're sure it's not flock then I'd be surprised if it's felt and flock, they panels tend to be very different types from flock to foam.

Thanks sbloom, I will take it into a saddler.

The panels just feel different compared to my latex and foam saddles and if its possible a little extra flock in the front would improve the fit.

You could actually try shimming it, if you feel you know what you're doing. You could stick a small felt him in behind the panel at the points - I use ones about 3-4" in diameter, though slightly more square than circular - if the tree is actually at too wide an angle. If the tree is at the right angle but just needs more clearance then you should us a shim that goes from below the points right up to the top of the panel, if there is room.

If you don't know what a saddle looks like when it's in balance, or aren't sure if the tree is the right width or not, then definitely have a fitter look at it, find one who can do the work as well, may fitters flock onsite etc.

I hadn't thought of that but having had a look at it I can't see how it is possible? The point pocket is sewn to the panel and the panels are laced on the underside
