Hi I have taken the decision to solar comb my Fresian cross very thick mane and it looks very smart however I am not sure how best to do the forlock I know it should not be straight across and should be the same length as the mane any tips please ?

I would not solo comb it.... it will look to straight, like a child with a home cut fringe!!!!

I would razor it...... just hold a section of the longest hair at a time and pull a razor down it to taper it off.

Watch out for the revenge of the solo combed mane though..... I did Merlins a couple of months ago and now the shorter bits are making the rest of his mane stand up like a Zebra

I now believe they were invented by the devil himself!!!

I dont like solo combs but if you really have to use it then do it in a sort of point (shorter at each end and then gradually longer in the middle) this gives it a more natural look and you dont get a fringe look!

I use them with success I dont like pulling manes and had to fight with my big lad when pulling his mane so went to a solo comb and never looked back they are fine used in the correct manner. So to a point is the correct trim for the forlock and it can be done fine with the solo comb.

I use a Smart Tail thinning comb. For the mane you brush it over the wrong side and simply rake the comb through and it thins it out. For the forelock you just rake it through. It's worked out well for me.
