Mo has had this on her hock now for months and months. She came in from the field with it - i assumed it was a kick. There was never any heat or swelling. I just cleaned it with hibiscrub and have left it since then. But it wont go away!

It just scabs up, but the scabs aren't bloody scabs - they're more like muddy scabs, if that makes sense!?

Is there anything i can put on it to make it heal and encourage the hair to grow back?

I was going to put cornucrescine on it, but would rather it healed up first. When i scrub the scabs off, it bleeds again (nothing major, just like a graze would bleed).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - i want her to have pretty legs!!!

Have you tried manuka honey? It is honey made from Tea Tree (antiseptic). One of the TB's on our yards had a cut on his pastern that wouldn't heal and kept opening up. Owner tried it and it worked an absolute treat.

I used Manuka honey recently and it worked a treat however you will need to cover it cos it really attracts the flies.
My Mares was on the hock too, a dressing and micropore tape right round the leg kept it on

If it was on one of my horses I would pick the scab off and clean it well just once- and then keep smothering it in Cornucrescine or a cream designed for cuts from the vet.

I wouldn't worry about washing it after that with Hibiscrub or anything as it can stop it from healing.

I normally ask for Antibiotics on a cut that won't heal, even if its minor, some horses seem to heal better than others.

U can get manuka honey in most big supermarkets, its the dark stuff.

Also if you dont fancy using the honey I've always found intrasite gel really good, u can order it on ebay for around £5 i think

That is quite unreal. My mare had exactly the same cut in exactly the same place not so long ago. I thought it would never heal and tried all sorts of potions. In the end I gave up and left it alone and it healed in a couple of days. It did take about 7 weeks for it to disapear.

My TB gelding has had a cut in a very similar place too. He kept knocking the scab off when getting up from a roll in the field. I use to keep picking it off and cleaning and applying lotions and potions. In the end I used gold label "wonder gel" that is tea tree based and then left it alone. Its nearly gone now but it has been several weeks!

It's a bit difficult to tell from the pic but it looks like it could have become colonised by bacteria. If so an Inadine dressing should sort it out if you can get it to stay there.

i had this problem i tried every lotion and potion in the end aloe vera gel seemed to do the trick. Cornucrescine may help speed up the repair too
