Got a new TB with no topline and head in the clouds and would like to start lunging him in a chambon. How do I start off gradually so it's not such a shock? Do I attach the clips to the bit straight away but keep it loose or clip them to the bridle so it works on the poll first? Any advice gratefully received!

I personally would clip it stright to the bit, however make sure it is long enough so that it would only come into action if he put his head up high, and only use it for short periods to start off with. gradually increase the length of time and intensity of use. Chambons are a brilliant training aid, however it is important to ensure that he is working from behind, otherwise it will teach the horse to plow along on his forehand with his head down and nothing more.
