This sound silly but... i'd love to event on my horse looks like fun! or possibly focus on sj dunno.(i've never competed before except gymkhanas when i was like 5) so question is how do i get started?

Start by doing unaffiliated competitions. They are usually smaller and less competative. I am sure there will be a few local places near you which hold them weekly/monthly - google your local riding places and most of them have websites which give dates and sheduals of their competitions, and their rules.

Hopefully that will give you an idea of whether you like it and if you do as well as you hope. Affiliated comps may also be held at your local riding places and you can ride on a 'ticket' which is around £6/7 not including the actual price of entering the class, and sometimes you can't keep prize money.

Affiliating is expensive, with eventing being the most, Show jumping the second and dressage the cheapest..although still pretty expensive.

What ever you do, remember it is mainly for fun and winning is a bonus. Set realistic goals and you will do great

Go and do some cross country schooling. Look on the UK Chaser site here - you can hire these out and the jumps are all well made etc. Also have a look on the BE Website for info about what it involves, etc. Get yourself a good instructor and tell them what your goals are. They should tell you whether they think they are achieveable or if you need to focus on something else (ie dressage) before you take the plunge. There is nothing wrong with doing a few local comps for fun though - go for it
