I have an old, but in good condition thermatex - I think it's the original thickness.

Does anyone know how the warmth would compare to say a 200g medium-weight?

Many thanks! :)

I would say probably warmer than a 200g med weight. They are lovely and cosy and the mix of wool and acrylic is very effective.

I have both light and standard weight Thermatex rugs and even the lightweight one is pretty good

I'd say the standard one was warmer than a 200g myself but thats only my view, I've been using a standard Thermatex instead of a 200g stable rug these last few days as I believed it was warmer - could be wrong of course!

I wouldnt say it was the same as a medium weight at all. I have been experimenting while she has been on half day turn out and while in she had a thermatex original on for a while, she was undoubtedly warmer with her medium weight on than she was with the thermatex. I would say you might think of the therm as a light fill. 100-150 style...

Depends on what you think a medium weight rug is. I would think around 200g but I don't use it as an under rug. The one thing wrong with these rugs is that they will ride back and rub so I never use mine at night.

If your horse is damp/wet, a thermatex is as good (better) than any weight rug, as it will dry them while keeping them warm

If used alone on a dry horse it would be like a lightweight but I wouldnt use a thermatex as a normal rug. I wouldnt layer it either as I think it could make the horse overheat quite easily if the breathing ability was blocked by being covered by another rug - we all know how hot and sweaty manmade clothes can get in those circumstances.

Thank you very much for your help. He's now tucked up in the 200g over his normal rug instead of the thermatex. As someone as mentioned the thermatex was sliding back overnight and I wasn't happy with how tight it was around his chest this morning.

Thanks for all your help!
