How warm is a Thermatex?

My girl (tb x crillo) in this balmy December weather has been too warm at night for even a 100g Rambo. She is in a rain sheet tonight while stabled. I also have an original Thermatex and was wondering how warm they come up, i.e on nights she would be too warm in a 100g, could I use a Thermatex?

She is currently unclipped but is not overly hairy, I am planning to clip over Christmas as will be upping her workload, I am just very wary of over rugging and would rather her a bit on the cool side than too hot.

Thermatex is usually quite warm. Warmer than a 100g I would think. She will be warmer and more able to regulate her own temperature unrugged in her stable when it's warm. In a rainsheet the hair is flattened. Unrugged she can fluff her coat up if necessary. Forget the time of year and rug according to the weather.

My unclipped horses are unrugged. The ones that are fully clipped are in fleeces at night (meant to be 13o tonight) and lightweight turnouts during the day. It is ridiculously mild for the time of the year.

Thermatex rugs do come in different weights but I tend to think that the traditional one is reasonably 'heavy'. On the plus side though, if it is too much rug at least the horse should be dry underneath.

Thermatex is about equal to 200g. I only have this or a fleece. My mare is blanket clipped, she's just in a fleece tonight as its not dropping below 11, she's a cold pony too but this weather is ridiculous!

I agree that a standard Thermatex is at least as warm as a100g rug, if not warmer. Just let her go naked in the stable while it is so mild as she is unclipped.

Unclipped and not cold = unrugged here! My old PBA who didn't grow a winter coat even unrugged had a 100 or 200g with neck for winter, like actual winter. He had less hair than anything else I've seen and did feel the cold though! My current Welsh and Welshxtrotter type are both unrugged and in cracking condition :)

Thought it was pretty warm, its a traditional one. May invest in a fleece for slightly chilly days when she is too hot in a 100g. This weather is ridiculous, shouldnt moan as at least its not icy but have a friend with a very overheated cushings pony (will not let clippers anywhere near her), also the field is still a quagmire.

I'd keep unrugged until the temps drop down to around 2C. A woman posted on facebook the other day asking what rug she should put on her Welsh A foal!

I put my rip off thermatex on my horse after he was ridden and slightly sweaty over this saddle/girth and when I took it off 3/4 hour later he was dripping! It was much too hot for him. It was eleven celsius at our yard then. I had to stick him under the solarium lights to dry him off before I could rug him in a cooler, last night was supposed to rise to 13c in Warwickshire!

If it's too warm for a 100g she'll be absolutely fine naked.
