How Wide Should A Wide Saddle Be?

Very stupid question I know

but have been getting so confused, some people advertise 7-8inches D-D ring as wide, then somebody on my yard said their should be 11inches D-D

I always thought it was around 9, so what should the measurement be?

depends on the make there is no standard width for a description of narrow medium wide etc etc

Normally 8 inches is Medium, but totally depends on saddle. If there is a lot of flocking then an 8inch could be narrow, if there isnt much it could be wide. Generally though I would say about 10inches is Wide.

Thank you, the problem was we got both dressage and jumping saddles both by the same company, both the same size but the dressage one was second hand and we think it must have been used on something quite wide before we got it.
