How would you define hard feed ?

I've always thought hard feed was straights/concentrates/mixes/balancer etc.

I don't think pony nuts are classified as hard because they are compressed fibre. Sugarbeet I'm not sure about.

Someone please tell me the correct definition of hard feed!

Pretty much the same as you except that pony nuts are hard feed and do contain a great deal more than just fibre. If I had to try to give a definition I would describe it as the additional feed required to make up the additional nutritional requirements not supplied by the bulk feed/forrage.I dont count chaff as hard feed.

I,m not sure that sugar beet or bran really fit into a general classification,not that it really matters.:D
