How would you describe your riding?

As title... and reasons. I ma intersted to know, as some advert s state certain things and I ring up they mean completely different things to what I thought

ETA what would you define as the options in the poll? Also, what would you expect a rider coming off ponies to be able to do?

I put experienced...
But when reading adverts, i wouldn't go and look at an event horse that had 'not novice ride' next to it, as even tho i'm not a novice, i always think that it's not worth the hastle

I put average, but actually , in the way you describe it I would more likely come under experienced.

Done bit of everything, all just to PC, Riding Club level.
Have ridden and had own pony since 4 years old (now 36!!!), but nothing to that high a level. (although could manage more than 'little' jump

Have helped to back/ride away horses, been riding 18 years, had my own horses since I was 9 but have little to none (proper) competition experiance... and I'm a bag of nerves most of the time!

Plus I have a cobby horse who can't really work any higher than my comfort zone, so I can't really push myself!
May all be changing soon though...

I put experienced. I have backed horses and re-schooled others, can sit pretty much anything (touch wood!) and my own horse is definitely not for a novice. I have little competition experience especially in the 'technical' side of things but I ride exactly the same in the ring as out of it which goes a long way in my opinion.

I would happily go to see a horse that wasn't a novice ride. I consider myself more than competent although competitively I am a total numpty compared to most of the people on here.

Probably too much of a gap between experienced and pro (competing at a high level) for many on here. Having said that, I don't know how you'd describe the (fairly large) jump in between

Well I dunno really - I have done PN eventing? I ticked fairly experienced but probably compared to a lot of people on here I am just a beginner
grin.gif
But for me going PN is a bit more than w/t/c/jump a little, even if it wouldnt be for others

I think you need 2 polls... one for your level of experience in general riding/re-schooling/problem solving/backing etc and one for your level competitively as I'm sure there are plenty of others who have done masses of riding but aren't into competing. Or maybe add a category called 'competing at moderately high level'?

I think I am experienced - I can ride all sorts and have brought on lots of youngsters
tongue.gif
but i have an effective seat and can sit most bucks etc.

however i have only competed up to pc open and PN eventing. Have broken in a horse or 2 and am the "test jockey" for the yard. have a pretty good seat but suffer from left handitus, and can generally get the job done to a half decent level, and am mostly self taught. however, i am not talented rider as my YO can get on my horse and make it do things perfectly that i can only get half of the result that she can.

Part of the problem is the people with money who can buy decent horses and ride them = making a name for themselves as they win all round them, therefore people like me (very little money and buy youngsters
tongue.gif
) dont often get a name as never win when up against the "money experience"

but slowly but surely, I am going to beat them (never mind their superstar horses
tongue.gif
)

maybe i should have ticked fairly experienced?

I went for average because even though I do quite a lot on Bodey, I don’t know how good I would be riding another horse that isn’t cob (or a Fjord).

I put fairly experienced. I have ridden lots of just broken horses, young things, buckers, rearers. I have brought on a few from babies.

I have not competed at a very high level though. Pc opens and pn's, but I am young and have not had the chances of competing higher yet.

I put experienced. I've brought on two 4 yos, & can ride buckers & spooky/sharp but prefer not to. I've competed up to 1 m 15 bsja & have a few bd points. I can stick on okay. However, I don't think I'm at all talented, esp compared with most people on here - I just get there or thereabouts by plodding away day after day.

Wouldn't go to see a 'not novice ride' cos I prefer an easy & predictable life. (Unless it was v obviously a nice horse accidentally bought by less experienced owners.)

Hhmmm it's quite tricky.

I put fairly experienced but it all depends on what context you put it in. I couldn't do a "proper" dressage test to save my life (yet) but I have competed in the past SJ'ing and done a few xcountry courses in my time.

I ride 2 sharp horses who are not novice rides at all and who I have trouble getting other people to ride because of their abundance of character!!!

I have been riding since before I could walk but I am not anywhere near the likes of ElleJS or Gamebird who have recently competed at *** and **** events!

Maybe I need to upgrade myself but I'd rather say I was worse than I actually am, just in case someone asks me to pop their horse round a course for them!!!!!

I would say I was an 'experienced' rider, but not particularly 'advanced'. I can and will get on and ride anything, get a good tune out of most horses and improve difficult horses. I've done a decent amount of most types of riding. Don't mean I'm much good at them though!
