I have met a barrage of inconsideration recently.

The latest one is that my horse was meant to move into a different paddock with another horse last night. The field has loads of ragwort - I spent 3 hrs digging it yesterday, with lots more to go. My field sharer appears with 'round up', pulls some of it by hand, sprays the remaining roots with it, as well as anything she can't be arsed to pull. (LOTS of spot spraying). I asked is this toxic to the horses - no answer, except saying she was going to carry on doing it anyway.

My horse is having breathing issues at present - And to be honest, with those or not, I am not especially happy about my horse going straight into that field. I read some literature saying it needs to be left for 3 days first?

The main thing that gets to me is that there was such little consideration. I find that very upsetting. I am meant to be her sharer. I have told the y o I don't want him going in that field for a couple of days. Do you think I am justified in my feelings?

Yours, frustrated.

You are certainly more than justified in feeling the way you do- I would not be at all pleased. Last year I spot sprayed some ragwort and kept my mare out of the field for at least 3 weeks- more for the ragwort to totally decompose rather than the chemical to wear off. It's very irresponsible of her to spray whilst animals are in/ or about to go into a field- the yo needs to say something to her so that she removes the horses.

Why doesn't the YO weed the fields? I was scared stiff of putting a horse in a fields with a stalk of ragwort when we had DIYs - luckily we don't have much. If I was at a yard that they expected my horse to go in a weedy, ragworty field, let alone do all the weeding myself, I would be looking to move. If you insist on your tennants doing the work it doesn't get done properly, and people get lazy like your fieldmate. I would be asking your YO who would be liable if your horse got ill - would it be them or your fieldmate..

If your horses are due to go into the field shortly, it is a wast of time to spot spray as you willstill have to pull up the ragwort, dying or not!
