If one of your dogs attacked another while out walking? Quite frankly I'd be horrified if any of my lot attacked another dog. They always go up and say hello, but wouldn't dream of attacking and if they did they'd get a good telling off.

We were out walking on Sunday had Beastie, Tina and Cindy puppy and my OH had walked on ahead a bit with Beastie and Cindy. (Tina won't go with him, she loves mummy Gina

) I was helping my wee cousin who is only 5 down some awkward areas when I heard a growl and Beastie crying. Now Beastie is not a dog to cry, she is rather robust to say the least.

So we ran up ahead and this dog dandered past me with the owner. Asked OH what had happened and he said the other dog came up to the Beastie, sniffed her and then made a lunge at her, knocking her over and pinning her to the ground.

The dog wasn't much bigger than what she is. OH said the owner just stood there and then walked on. Didn't say anything to the dog!

I would be very embarrassed if one of mine had done that and worried if they'd hurt another persons dog but he never even asked if she was ok

She was grand, bit shook up and was very clingy for the rest of the walk and wouldn't say hello to other dogs, just hid behind me

SOrry for long post.

My lurchers and greyhounds used to be awful at trying to chase small fluffy dogs when we were out walking them - obviously we would always try and be really vigilant and put them on leads whenever we saw anyone coming, but being sighthounds there were occasions when they saw the other dog before we did.

I only remember one occasion when one of my lurchers bit another lurcher and actually drew blood

- to be fair they had been playing, then the other dog got aggresive so Mac was acting in self defence - luckily the other owners were lovely about it, ex-OH and I apologised, offered to pay for vets treatment etc but actually it was quite superficial and the dog was fine (phew!)

We had this all the time with our dog.... Our dog was on a lead for 99% of the attacks and the other dog loose. The one that really got me was a group of dogs all off the lead 2 border collies playing with a ball and a Weimeraner. My dog had said hello nicely to the Wei and they were both intent on sniffing a nice bit of wee when one of the borders ran up to my dog and bit his leg. The owners just stood there!!!! Not a word! I lunged at the collie and growled and it ran off. The poor Weimeraners owner was clearly embarrassed and said
" oh I think ( border collies name...I can't remember but lets just call it smelly) thinks he owns this bit of grass"
To which I directed my response at the owner saying
" well it bloody well doesn't!"
Now my dog has never retaliated ever by biting....He was a 13 stone Wolfhound so if absolutely cornered would bulltoss an aggressor which would never result in damage to the other dog. He only ever did this once when he was cornered.
I was furious! Strode up to the owners and said
"Wolfhound.....used to kill wolves! the clue is in the name!" and strode off !

I think a lot of the time (not always) but the person whose dog is attacked sees the attack a lot worse because its their dog. Often the attackers owners get caught off guard and are probably embarrassed.
That said my dog would have a belting if he did that, but yu cant expect everyone to act the same. an appology would be nice though

If i see another dog off lead I always get mine on in goo time...my and my Akita never gets of the lead.
If for any reason my dog was not on lead and neither was theoter dog and this happened..my dog would be in big trouble!!!
If a dog comes up to mine when they are on their lead...and it get's bit..that is tuff...the dog should be restrained and the owner should not b so thick as to let a dog aproach some rather huge dogs whilst on a lead

CALA i agree. the amount of idiots letting their dogs run off the lead with absoutely no recall whatsoever that my dog has had in his mouth coz they have came and faced up to him while he was restrained and on the lead he sits there all angelic then just lunges. luckily hes never really hurt a dog. bad owners are the bane of my life of late. i have staffordshire bull terriers all have fantastic natures but when a strange dog approaches them in a dominant manner game over! however i am glad mine stand up for themselves rather than me having to pay vet bills. and when mine are on the lead and others are off lead then on their heads be it - clueless idiots

Last summer, Stella and I had the misfortune of encountering four rat terriers, all off leash (on one of the busiest streets in Manhattan--not at the park), two of which were extremely aggressive. One ran down the street chasing Stella (who was leashed). When the dog tried to attack, Stella fought back, and the owners had the audacity to come running over (in their own blessed time) and flip out at me

I pride myself on owning a very well-behaved, very friendly little dog, and cannot abide people who have no control over their animals.

Umm, not sure - Alfie and another BT had a big of a scrap in the park today but it wasn't really a bit deal - just terriers being little sh*t's I guess.

But if my dog attacked another one I'd tell them off, smack their botty and appologise...

I do think some people are too over protective sometimes. A guy had is dog of the lead in the park - Star was off the lead too - they were just saying hi, both being friendly and he shood her away and gave me a funny look! Miserable old git!

We have 3 labs, but at the time we only had our boy, Orry. I was walking Orry around the block going past a paticular house on one of the back lanes that had no back garden wall. Orry only attack in self defence, he is very capable of defending himself and a very athletic dog, but obidient. Orry had his ears pricked as we walked around this corner and he was hesitating to walk.. odd.. I kept him walking and then this dog ran out of the back garden with no back wall and latched onto Orry. Orry just couldn't get it off, I knew this dog, it had a very bad attitude.. I kicked it and tried to get it off my dogs throat! (Orry has had 2 throat ops) but to no avail. The owner came out shrieking her dogs name and grabbed it by the coller and held onto it. I was rather blunt saying that this was not the first encounter that these 2 dogs have had and if she could keep her dog on a lead or not let it out of her back door for my dogs safety (Orry was on a lead the whole time). The woman flipped! She let go of her mutt whom immidieately attached itself to my dog and the woman proceeded to start pusing me into a wall giving me an earful. I basically told her the terms of assault, and said that she had better get her dog off mine or vets bills would be difercted to her adress. The lovely lady later on that evening recieved a police caution and was told to have her dog muzzled in public. Its people like this that drive me nuts. This dog of her had a reputation for going for people too! It tried it on with me once and rather quickly was on the floor by the scruff of its neck (it had escaped from its front garden that time, and I still put it back into the garden!). We had no apologies, nothing. I was fuming! Thankfully the following week the woman and her little rat moved away
