Hiya time for one of these again, would be interested to hear opinions on his weight and general condition as I think his musclyness (? :p ) is pretty good ATM (although I know he could do with more topline especially on his neck..think he always will tbh, but our schooling is constantly progressing and he works in an outline a lot more consistantly, so it should be improving, already has quite a bit since i got him). He is an 8yo TB.
I know pics aren't very good for it, but general CC about his confo welcomed too, am interested to hear his good things/bad things as i'm not very experienced at that sort of thing! :)

I'm guessing your yard is on a slope as in the first three pictures he looks very bum high but isn't in the last photo.
 
Ooer I must have taken the bum-high-looking ones at a funny angle as he is certainly not :o Will find some other pics to prove :o
 
Thanks Echo Bravo, i am expecting some people to say he is maybe carrying a little too much (and i kind of agree..) but i can easily feel his ribs, and see them a bit too. I'm also aware he does drop weight v easily in winter too so better to be very slightly on the fatter side I guess. :)

I must say I've never noticed him being so bum high (though like i said i'm no good at noticing that kind of thing!) or had it mentioned to me (but then i've never asked... :p ) but I do see it now, though I maintain the pics must at quite a funny angle? just because i haven't noticed. maybe not? :o

Do you think that once he gets some more top line on his neck and shoulder his bum-high-ness will be less noticeable?

I don't mind either way, I still think he's lush :D
 
Sorry, have to say that they are not particularly good pictures - we don't particularly want to see his head facing us - get him standing straight, on flat ground and head facing forwards would start to help us assess his condition.

From what I can see - he is extremely down hill but on a condition score he looks "good" but cannot really see his neck in any of the pictures.
 
Yes, they are bad pictures I know. Will get some tomorrow of him standing properly (which will hopefully make him look less built downhill!) and repost. Thanks
 
Ok - you're pictures are not the best but he looks like a very happy lad! He's got a super head with an honest eye. I can't upload photo's but will put a link up for how you really need to stand your horse for it to be correctly assessed. I would say he's slightly upright through his hind leg, is in great condition - looks healthy in coat and skin. (need to look at photos again so will have to post this and come back to edit!) He is short coupled which I like and strong across his back. I personally don't think he looks that weak through his neck. It's hard to see due to photo's but that is what I am seeing.

Just found this as a guide http://www.inglis.com.au/sales/horse/366-1031/ - click images to right of page where photo of horse galloping and then go so you can see the 2nd photo of the horse stood up and that's how you want to photograph them for a conformation critique. Always photograph from the nearside first and then the offside. The horses lateral legs closest to you should always be ahead of the opposite sides feet. Sorry it's hard to explain. In the photo you'll see how that horse is stood and where it's feet are. Then when you go to the other side to photo you push the horse back half a stride and his feet will be where they should be (hopefully) Sorry this is so long winded!

I believe the question you asked was how is he looking condiditon wise?NOT how is his conformation!He looks fab going into winter :D His conformation is irrelevant! ;) :D He looks good!!
 
Aces_High, thanks that's really helpful! Will bear in mind when I go and take some more pics today. Part of the problem is that he's very nosy and wants to turn and see what's going on!! Will get someone to hold him in place.

hadfos- lol yes normally I only ask about condition/weight (hence my crappy photos usually being acceptable :o :p ) but this time thought I'd ask for conformation crit too :) Thanks for your nice comments!
 
Does make it tricky when they are nosy devils - we should remember it is all about them afterall!! Defo ask someone to hold him and to have a crisp wrapper or something in your pocket to get his attention - generally works most times!!
 
Awful.

Send him to me. :) I'll save him :) he's gorgeous and looking good I think. Pasterns are a little long for my liking - but take a look at my old horses pasterns - horrendously long..

Lovely TB.

I would get his saddle checked. He has uneven muscle development in the loin area and the Trapezius muscle in the shoulder areas shows it does not have freedom of movement to extend under the saddle panel. I have marked these on a photo below ( I have not added an image before so it may not show).

Thanks for the nice comments :o I'm afraid he's not going anywhere right now though :p (but ask again in mid-January after a couple of months of ***** shovelling in the freezing cold and dark and you may have yourself a deal :D )

Texel, that's very interesting, thanks. He had a new (second hand) saddle fitted about 2 months ago, but my RI did mention last week that she reckons it could do with checking as he seems to have filled out again. We did previously have a problem with a too-narrow saddle 'blocking' movement at the shoulder. Thanks

Amazing difference between now and when you bought him in April - well done - good condition now for going into winter. I had thought that he was a little straight in the hind leg as previously mentioned but again I think it was the angle of the photo cause in the later photo he looks fab - well done keep up the good work.
 
Thanks, that's really nice :) I've taken condition photos basically every month i've had him, it's been really nice to see the progression :)
