Sorry, picture is rubbish. This was him when he arrived on Monday, I'm going to take photos maybe every couple of weeks so I can keep track of his development :)
He's a 9yo TB.

I'm hoping he'll bulk up once the grass is through- his old owner readily admitted that their hay had been very bad quality recently so he'd been preferring to eat the straw- not great for weight gain! He's not eating much of ours recently so putting him on haylage instead until he settles in some more.
I'm hoping to do unaff ODEs, hunter trials, show jumping (maybe Trailblazers) and then hopefully do a coupl of BE80s or Intros by the end of the summer :) ..oh and lots of hacking and general fun!

That's good to hear, I'm afraid I am suffering from 'new mother' syndrome, I get worried quite easily ATM! :D (he's not even my first horse, I think it's just because he's so sweet natured and I've had some g!ts!)

I'm sure he'll be fine MollyA. So much easier to start with a slightly light horse than a fat one!

Sounds like you will both have a lot of fun!

Does he have a competition history? Just wondering what he has been doing to be so lithe!

Well, he's an ex racer (fantastically well bred, just didn't take to racing! :o ) and for the last few years has been doing a lot of RC eventing, dressage and showjumping at around PN height and below. So nothing affiliated or particularly prestigious, but he is still very fit!

Sounds good! So he knows his way around a competition and you are seeing him now at his worst behaved ie fit!

I saw a weight gain very quickly with haylage, but even good quality hay should show improvement. But then you know that!

Also as MM says the spring grass WILL be through soon (I hope!)

Keep us posted on his progress?

Be lovely to see what you two achieve :)

Yes, he is obviously feeling very well in himself, I rode him for the second time at home yesterday (have had saddle issues) and two girls on ponies went galloping along the track next to the school, racing- the poor thing found it very unfair that he was stuck in the school instead of galloping with them, as he demonstrated with some acrobatics! :D
I'm going to start him off on haylage, then gradually mix it with hay (which is pretty good quality, think it's just still quite new to him) and see how he goes. Am sure I'll be back on here with more queries, worries and questions before long!

Will definitely keep HHO updated. Looking forward to a fun summer (just got to get these b!oody GCSEs out of the way first! :D )
