How's your horse in thunder?

It's been raining heavily and constantly here for two days now, until this morning it was just rain. However a few hours ago it turned into thunder and lightning. I went out several times to check on my mare and she was in her shelter but didn't seem too bothered by all the noise (still I hope the thunder stops soon!). My gelding on the other hand, when he was here, felt comforted by the mare but still got a bit nervy. So how do yours react to thunder? How do you deal with it if they do have a problem?

How far from swansea are you? thats where i am and its been horrific all morning, so bad that the rain has leaked through the offices, works car park is flooded and the works yard....:( thunder and lightening all mornig!
My girls are fine with it though...i`m not:D brought them in last night give them a break.

My horse is fine, doesn't bat an eyelid, even if it starts when being ridden, my old loan pony and companion weren't so keen. The other livery where I kept the pony used to put the radio on for him and the other horse, when they were in obviously :p

I'm just 9 miles from Swansea- towards Llanelli. The houses down the hill from me usually get flooded, not me though luckily! I hope this rain isn't in to stay, it gets so depressing not being able to do anything :(

Sods law aint it....one of mine is now sound after 3 weeks off through lameness and now when she`s ready to be ridden the weaher turns....PAIN!!!!!
No thunder and just drizzle in Neath though :(

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm breaking in my mare and we have just started making real progress in terms of improved outline and jumping technique. So I've got my whole training schedule done up and now the rain's gone and trashed the whole thing :-( Rain tomorrow too apparently- and we wonder why wales is so green :rolleyes:!
 
Last big storm we had Herc stood in the middle of the field eating, didn't even bother to look up to start with (the idiot then decided it was a good idea to canter up to me and down the hill in the rain) He was then left stood outside his stable with a leadrope tossed over his neck while my mate moved the wheelbarrow, with lightning flashing - and he was more interested in the colt.....Needless to say he doesn't give a flying monkeys :D

Not sure about Blue, he's alright in his stable - food beats everything - never seen him in the field during one.

And me....I love storms....provided i'm atleast dry while watching them.
 
I always bring ours in if there is thunder as I would be worried about lightening. No trees in the fields or around, so the horses are the highest points!! They are brought in and have hay so they are thrilled to bits. They are normally in fatty paddocks, so anything that means they have hay to munch is good by them. One would be anxious if she were the only one on the yard in thunder, but since they are always in together there is no prob.
At least think of the better going after the rain! It is like concrete here, lots of good canters again is worth a few days of rain!!
 
I'd only had my cob mare a few days when we did a pub ride:D and on the way to the pub, we had blazing sunshine, stampeding cows, heavy heavy rain, hailstones and thunder and lightening!!:eek: My mare was an absolute angel and didn't bat an eyelid at anything!
I decided that if she can cope with all that in a completely new environment with a new rider, then she's definately a keeper!:) She's my star and always will be, even when i can't catch the blasted thing:rolleyes:!
 
mine stay out in it ,as they live out 24/7 all year round . they dont mind it .i must say im careful as my friend cob actally got shocked by lighting and unforually died as a result so please be careful
