Not made it to HOYS this year but will be going to Olympia. Wondering what the deals were like a HOYS? I went to hickstead earlier this year and didn’t think it was great!

I'm going to olympia too, it's never that great these days shopping wise. I think if you're spending big money (thousands) you'll get deals but just normal shopping you might get a bit of something but I wouldn't expect amazing deals

OH and I commented that it was like olympia shopping this year. Nothing special. though we did get through a lot of gin samples :p

i think the retailers have to pay so much for a stand these days the chance of getting mega deals is pretty low.

The treehouse guy when at blenheim said he wasn't doing some as suppliers cannot guarantee him stock so it's too much risk as he has to sell a lot when there to make it pay.

At least half the olympia stalls are just there for amusement/who would buy that/how much entertainment in a normal year though ?

HOYS used to be amazing but I've been disapointed the last few years & nopw skipped it this year. Less & less stalls, few deals & not very many actual horse stands - inundated with gin, sweets, leather cleaner, high end clothing & other random stuff.
YHL is my new favourite & the shopping is fab.

I went to hoys 2 years ago and was a bit underwhelmed with the shopping, not as much horse stuff as I would’ve liked or if it was it was more of the same kind of stuff in each stall. I was after a Thermatex rug and a few other things which I couldn’t find.

I spent 2 days at HOYS and didnt find any good deals really. Picked up a couple of things off the Joules sales rack and that was it! Everything else seemed to be max price. Didnt manage to find either of the 2 things Id hoped to get there either as just too expensive, Id get cheaper online.

I’m amazed that people are expecting deals! Many tradestand businesses didnt survive Covid, it costs thousands to have a stand at HOYS, they have to buy the stock, pay staff, insurances, vehicles & fuel. I’ve run a tradestand since 2010, it’s hard work & long hours, pitch fees are increasing certainly at the bigger shows, fuel costs are up, as are prices for stock, & without fail you always get at least one person moaning they could buy it cheaper elsewhere, I just tell them to take it or leave it, yesterday someone said that surely “I discount all my stock at the end of the season” err no!

Generally most people havent got a clue just how much work is involved, which is fine as I don’t know what’s involved in being say a traffic warden, but the difference is I don’t tell the traffic warden how to do their job, most customers who visit are lovely & friendly, but there are without fail always one or two miserable gits who think you should sit there & not actually make any profit, that it’s a fun day out that you should be doing for free!

I don't "expect" a bargain but I've been places in the past that maybe take some sample garments or the stock that's a bit window faded or 2 seasons old. That's not the way now, I'd never expect to get a special rate just because its at a show though
