My hubby has a very lazy 5 year old thoroughbred, hes so sweet in every way and he just loves attention (the horse, not my hubby lol).

We got this horse very cheaply as hes got sarcoids, hes got one of his face and another one on his belly. The vet has given us stuff to put on it and it does seem to be clearing up.

He was also underweight when we got him, but hes been working hard with him and everyone can see a huge difference with him. Im not a confident rider but i love riding him!

Thing is, the sarcoids are near gone, is there any way to prevent them coming back, or will there always be that chance?

They dont bother us at all, but the treatment bothers him as he gets very grumpy. We do put vaseline around the sarcoids to stop the cream transferring to his skin.

Any advise?

To my knowledge no way of stopping them coming back, they either will or they won't. Is it liverpool cream you're using?
But if the cream is doing the trick and they are going I'd just be very happy at that and carry on enjoying the horse , he sounds like a real find.

Has he had the liverpool cream? If so its good, and hopefully same ones wont come back.

However, will always be more prone than non sarcoid horse to get others im afraid. Having said that, may never get another one! And as long as they arent anywhere painful/getting rubbed you can enjoy the horse and not worry! (fingers crossed for you!)

I might be wrong, but I dont think you can prevent them once they have appeared. Mo had the ones that look like ring worm, they went for over a year, but came back last summer. I think it was the stress of a new yard, etc. We have a Hanoverian at the yard who suffers very badly from them & they can only manage it.

He has very good breeding and used to be a racehorse, but he wasnt fast enough lol. To me its the first time i can put lazy and thoroughbred in the same sentence!

The cream is brown and quite runny, comes in a white tub with blue on it aswell. Think it cost £65 per tub.

This is his racing history, you can check his parents out from it

Do you like his racing name lol

I love his racing name will your OH keep it as his show name

I find throughbreds can be so different in buth appearance and personslity , its part of what makes them such fun.
Bless him he wasn't the fastest was he.

Hes got one on his face and if the headcollar is on it could hit it, hes tries to scratch it with his legs lol. The one on his belly is hanging off at the mo, its just a matter of time before it falls off.

The one on his face just looks scabby now, today is his last day of treatment. With this cream he gets it for a week and then off it for 2 weeks

He does have very attractive breeding.
If the sarcoids dont worry you then forget about them - nothing you can to stop them coming back.
Sarcoids dont worry me, but I would never buy a horse with lots or big clusters of them. IMO they are the type that are very hard to get rid of completely.
Horses that are prone to them tend to be worse affected when they are in a poor state. I have known quite a few that have had some nasty sarcoids when thin and rough, but then they go and never come back when they are in good health.
Seeing as he only has 2, hopefully youll be lucky!

The liverpool cream has to be put on by the vet, unless its the pre treatment cream which you put on, then vet puts the cream from liverpoll on after!

If they still persist, ask you vet to take pica and send to liverpool, then they send cream

As I said, should clear them up but might not stop further ones coming.

Lol nope he certainly doesnt have speed, but he can jump! When you loose lunge him, he can jump 1m30, and to me thats impressive.

Hes such a suck, he puts his head on peoples shoulders for them to stroke his face. I personally wouldnt change him for the world, and once hes a bit fitter, he will be going to a few shows.

No hes not keeping that name lol, his show name is Devine Power

aww bless he sounds lovely.

Ive known horses with LOTS of sarcoids that kept coming back, and horses with a view that didnt change but no more appeared, you can just never tell.

As long as they arent interfering with his work and comfort I wouldnt worry

The one on his face would be hit if he has to wear a headcollar, but fine with the bridle. The one on his belly means i cant cross the surcingles on his rug as the straps would sit right on it.

Theyve definitely got better than they were, just dont like his looking so uncomfortable when he gets his treatment, so if i could prevent them coming back i would.

Can't help re sarcoids, but if you want to do the ex racehorse classes I'm pretty sure you'll need to use his racing name.

No hes not doing anymore racing, hes going to do some jumping that hes brill at!

Hes far to slow to be a racehorse, thats why he was sold.

Only time he gets excited is when he sees the big jumps lol

I added him to the pedigree query database so you can see his full breeding. Let me know if it's not right.

I think its pot luck as to whether they come back or not. My mare had 2 when I first got her. She was 5 and quite stressed and run down (had been through Southall Market) but they've never reappeared and she's 12 now.

Liverpool cream is the best thing to use. My YO's horse had a huge sarcoid between his back legs and after using the cream it completly healed, cant see any trace of it being there. He was very sore whilst having the treatment as it burns (it was in a horrible position and so ended up with sore privates whilst having the treatment) but the sarcoid fell off and he has been right ever since.
