It's the weekend, so of course I NEEDED to go to a show! Seemed to be very few this Sunday in our area (wanted to do Silver Horseshoes on the Saturday but that was vetoed) so elected to go to Longford RC yesterday - hubby said that I would need to follow him in the other car, he would have to come home and I would need to load and drive Donkey home - (His plan being I would not be confident enough to drive the trailer with it's precsious cargo all that way and would not want to go) - WRONG!!! Heidi was going and said she would help me load

Arrived and dashed into the over 4yrs inhand - came 5th - not bad since she tripped over in front of the judge

and I think she had a real biased to the M&M - I was the first plaited horse in the line up!

Then onto Ridden Hunter - 6 in the class we came 3rd - judge said my horse had lovely paces and was stunning

, however would have been 2nd if she had not fallen out of canter in our show

Had also entered the very novice workers, however classes running at least 3 hours late and I did not want to be the last person there struggling to load. She loaded 3rd attempt - and I then drove her, very slowly back - through Derby city centre and around the Nottingham ring road - so that's it - I am now an independent traveler!!!!!!!!!!!

Better get back to work!!

Brilliant! Well done! I was terrified the first time I towed. When I got going though, I wondered what all the fuss was about! It's great not being dependant on someone else to tow for you. Excellent!

Donkey looks amazing. Well done. Can I ask a huge favour.....do you have any detailed pictures of her quarter marks? It was suggested we marked Oliver with stripes instead of squares and I'd not seen it done.

Congratulations on your results - you both look very smart! Glad to hear you did not have too much of a problem to load, and very well done indeed for driving the trailer

Woo hoo! Congratulations on being an independent traveller!!

Fantastic pictures. She looks beautiful and amazingly well turned out - that must have taken ages.

Stripes done with a nit comb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mane comb on pic below, but a nit comb and they look fantastic!!

Heres a pic of her done for a demo at show camp - you need a brush water and baby oil - and I've been practising every night!!

oh well done you - ive yet to tackle the towing - i have trailer and 4x4 - i used to take my last pony everywhere - but for some unknown reason have developed a phobia - all sorts of things go round in my head - pony will fall over (how will i get her up, shell be wedged in!) car will break down Horrors! Ponys leg will go through the floor and i wont know and will carry on driving! ill get to the other end and she wont load and ill have to stay there for ever................................

Well done for being brave re. the loading! Yar boo sucks & a

to hubby then! Hee hee!

Mini Stonks looking as exquisitely presented & adorably angelic as ever! (Could any horse have a kinder face?)

LOL at tripping over right in front of the judge bit & good idea re. the nit comb!

Awwwww, don't the pair of you scrub up well!!!!!

Bless, the donkey looks amazing!

Well done on the towing front, it goes get less traumatic, but even then I was terrified taking Asti on Thurs night as the fog was horrible. Got there safe though!

I invented my own quartermarks, 4 big squares with a smaller square in each - and I spray with hairspray when finished to keep them in! Or have done 2 longer ones with long thin bit in the middle... will upload pics...

Well done on both the showing and towing. She looks fab.

One thing, I personally would not put a pretty browband on her, but keep with the sensible hunter type bridle - as she is much more that type. You may even want to have a wider noseband which would suit her head.

Hope you continue to have fun with the showing and your independance.

In Ridden Horse classes in our area they seem to stick with the hunter type bridle but with a fancy browband, yesterday the chap that won both the Hunter and Ridden changed into a poofy browband for the Ridden!!! I want a green and gold one, Cleveland Bay Horse Society colours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Naw she is a lovely mare isnt she

. Pilot looks very smart too.

Mind you cant go wrong with a bay mare

Congratulations on your independant travelling success too!

I think (and don't quote me) if you use plain hunter bridle - tweed jacket. If you then do ridden horse in a fancy browband - you change to a plain navy or black jacket.

I *might* do a riding club horse class with Asti, depends how this foal lark goes, and if I do that I have a lurvely burgundy and gold browband my sister and friend bought me, so I want to use that but friend (showing guru!!) says I'd then need plain jacket.

Personally I think it will be nice to change between the two and have more than one party outfit!!!

I did use a coloured brow band for large riding horse with Fleur, it was beautiful in the colours you want, but have given it to Halfpass for her youngster as I now show hairy cobs and it is not suitable.

Try to avoid a too "pretty one" - plain flags and small rosettes as yours is a very workmanlike type of mare and not a dainty headed TB/pony - and that is not meant to sound rude.

I used to ride a cleveland x years back so do like the the donkey very much.

Sounds like you guys had a great time! She looks absolutely fabulous! Beautifully turned out - fancy doing H's plaits later this week for me?

Gosh, well done on travelling her by yourself. That's brave, and now you are independent! She looks gorgeous, and you are both beautifully turned out
