Danny the horse is have an loan so I can compete while Sol is busy being a stroppy 4yo has been lame now for a week because the farrier cut his feet back too short . He's now done this a handful of times , twice resulting in me missing the regionals last year and missing out of going to the trailblazers final .
I'm now starting to get really fed up with this and not only does it mean that , I can't ride he is also in pain and we've had to dose him up on bute

Should I say something to the Farrier or just trust he knows what he's on about

He's done it several times, your horse is lame, and you are still using the same farrier????

Danny's owner swears by him and has used him for 3 years and she admits he's done it before !!!
Ive tried explaining that it isn't necessary but he then assures her it is and she uses him again , even though YM hates the farrier and thinks he's useless aswell

YOU know what your talking about! and your horse is in pain!!! tell him NOT to trim your horse short, i take it these are dressage horses and you dont want a short stuffy stride esp due to pain!!
I would give him the chance sort it our, My farrier did this to my horse ONCE i told him, and it never happened again!! Am sure he will be fine when you tell him!!
 
Get rid asap. This isn't a one off so can't be a 'mistake'. Definitely get a new one. What area are you in?

What an idiot (the farrier I mean), poor you.
 
Talk to the farrier and explain you'd like his feet left a bit longer any good farrier will do as you ask or give you good reason why he is trimming so short. has the horse got sensitive feet anyway? some horses can be prone to this sensitivity, if the horse is prone to be sensitive ask the farrier if anything can be done. i.e. pads? just another way to go.
 
You pay lots of money for a qualified farrier cos if you did it yourself you might hurt him.......


......but you might as well have done it yourself as he is bleedin hurting him!

Time for new farrier then!!! hes had his chance and hes ignorant and agorant, you cant work with people like that!!!!
 
Many years ago we had a farrier that kept pricking my Dad's horse and making her lame. We had to pay the vet bills for these instances and after the 3rd time we got rid of him. He blamed her flat feet, but the next guy never had a problem.
 
Where in the country are you ? Not in my neck of the woods by any chance ? He sound like an idiot farrier that operates near me, lopping too much foot off is his speciality

No not near you , I'm down in South Wales . God just thinking about him makes my blood boil , was just talking to YM about it , not only does he lame my horse he adds his rude comments in - ' God thats not Danny , look at the state of him , is he in retirment or something ?

Not only for laming the poor horse but for being so bloody rude!! I reported the farrier in question to the farrier council after he lamed my horse! ( what a waste of time that was
