Oh big hugs for Thomas. I have such a soft spot for donkeys. My Dad spent new year's eve 1999/2000 holding up a donkey that had gone down in his shelter (opposite our house, where my horse was also kept) and got stuck. Dad held him up for a few hours and although the vet thought he wouldn't make it, they're tough little creatures and he pulled through. Dad was happy as Mum was topping up his mug of beer regularly
He was found collapsed in the field at 12pm today, had a make shift pallet ambulance to his stable and was wrapped in a thermal insulating rug and boots and put in a straw igloo with hot water bottles made of veterinary gloves to get his core temp up - which had slipped to 32deg
.
His owners are currently with him as he has to be turned over every hour as he is still too weak to move.
They are unsure what it is thats wrong as he was perfectly fine yesterday, but being down in the field in the rain meant he got very cold very quickly. He has a lump a few months ago, but being old the vet didn't feel it was best to bother with it, and he now has a lot of these lumps that have appeared over his back legs.
He is looking perkier, but being a man he is probably ok, and just milking it for the attention and cuddles
