Hungarian Vizlas' - Also in "All About Dogs"

Do any of you have any idea what Hungarian Vizlas' are like as family pets? Do they cope with chickens, horses, cats etc? I know it depends like all animal's on the upbringing, but we (my family and I) lost our Lab X last summer and we are now looking at having another dog at the end of this summer, we have been looking at different types of breeds and the Hungarian Vizla has really caught our eye.

Thanks in advance, hope this makes sense, any info on this breed would be really helpful

my godfather has one. he has it as a gun dog! great with other dogs, children. very ovedient. met horses, sheep,cats,chickens... even goes on the train!
My godfathers dog is called Rizla the Vizla, or just Riz and is such a dude. he did have a problem with epileptic fits, but not sure if that is common in the breed!
also a friend of mine has one who is very similar. they are both so cool

I have had 2. This is my second along with my pointer.

As pets they are energetic, intelligent and vocal. They need tonnes of exercise both mentally and physically. They are beautiful dogs and both of mine have been soft and good natured. Bracken my first one was fine with cats and good with the horses. Josh my current one is fine with the horses but not so good with cats - my neighbours cats don't venture in my garden any more

Thanks baypony Temsik was (and still is actually) in the middle of whelping pups- not vizslas sorry! I have replied in the dog thread.
 
Hi ya, I have a Vizla. I'd never have another type of dog. They are just FAB!

They are loyal, loving, great gun dogs. Mine is great with horses, other dogs, poultry, cats, kids everything. Mine is so soft mouthed she will carry a raw egg without breaking it.

The only thing I'd say is they are very clingy and hate closed doors, so get used to not having any privacy! It took a while to get Poppy happy with being left on her own but now she's great!

I really couldn't recommend one enough. Great dogs!
