Got another hunt ball to go to at the end of the month and definitely don't fit in the dress I was going to wear! So wondered if any of you had any thoughts on where I can get a nice cheap ballgown as am fed up of spending a fortune on dresses I only wear once! And any pics of you in your dresses to inspire me :)

Have you thought about hiring? If you go to a few balls each year hiring is def the way to go, so you don't have to wear the same dress twice. I usually pay £80 deposit and £80 hire cost, so you get the deposit back when you return the dress.

I don't know where you are located but there's a great shop called Deja Vu in Newark, Notts.

If you want to buy though TKMaxx often have some lovely dresses.

Any friends a similar size? Can you swap around amongst you? Dresses look different with different accessories and body shapes in them.

Sadly I've never managed this myself...

Yes definately recommend TK Maxx.

Dont know where you are but there is a store in Cannock Staffordshire called Nu-Life which takes all of the end of seasons from all the high street stores and sells them for silly money.May be worth a day trip of see if they have a website.

Try your local second hand / charity shops. Around us there are quite a few shops where you can re-sell clothing and there are always loads of ball gowns there. We are in a monied area and there are a lot of that sort of funtion about where you can't wear the same dress twice sort of thing. Many of them end up in those sorts of shops. They are a great place to pick up something stunning - especially if you are good with a needle and thread as well.
