Just wondering how people get hunt buttons. I gather they are awarded to people of the hunt by the hunt but what do they have to do and who exactly gives them to these people?

They are awarded as recognition for services to the hunt, for example, helping to organise a days hunting, helping with hound exercise or organising fund raising functions. They are usually given by the Master at the end of the season or at the Hunt ball

"The hunt button is given by the Masters to members for helping in the field and with the running of the hunt. It is an honour to be awarded the button and it is a recognition of service and helpfulness."

I was awarded mine after subscribing for 14 years and helping run the hunt supporters clubs, running fundraisers etc. Same for my OH.

I was awarded mine after subscribing for about 15 years, and for piloting a new huntsman around unfamiliar country in his first season with us.

Mm I think so too!!! They should be earnt not bought. It is fair to say that some people get them and the reason why is a little hazy to say the least..................................!!

I was given mine 16 years or so ago - that particular hunt had two types of button - plain hunt initials which were awarded for services etc, and twirly ones which people who were given full membership (asp opposed to subscribers) were allowed to wear. The main difference being that members had to fork out huge amounts of money each year for the privelege 
- so no ill feeling on my part, I'm quite happy with the cheap ones which I was extremely flattered to receive
