Shires have started doing black hunt coats, and to be honest I cant see much difference between them and the mears, and other expencive makes, nice heavy weight wool jackets and priced around the £130 mark are a bargain!

Great! I saw the shires one and thought at maybe wasnt as good quality, there isnt a shop near me that stocks hunt coats so I cant go have a feel/try on. I will prob go for a shires one then, and save money to actually go hunting with!
Thanks

I have a Shires one and it's good for the money. It feels nice and heavy and is very warm, so for around £100 less than you'd spend on a made to measure it's great.
Obviously nothing is going to be as nice as something M2M and if you're looking to spend a bit more, then I agree that Alexander James is fab.

i would always go for the best quaility one you can afford with natural fibers (high % wool)- as you'll get benefit on thoses horrible wet & windy days. As if you invest in a coat, they will always hold their value and with natural fibers they are so breathable. Mine was a £300 touch over 5 years ago and worth every penny but i know i could sell very quickly for very nearly same price as never been cold or to hot in it, even throught this very cold season and even on last saturday which it was way too hot for hunting it was prefect.

I'd also just mention that some hunts only hunt in ratcatcher now, post ban.....may be worth checking just in case!
