Hunts wil open their gates to newcomers in October for "Hunting Newcomers Week" (10-17th October)

Newcomers to hunting will get a taste of hunting, entirely free of charge, when hunts nationwide will open their doors to those with an interest in finding out more.

Packs of all descriptions are giving people the opportunity to try exempt hunting, to learn more about the way hunts work and the role they play in the British countryside.

Hunting Newcomers’ week has been very well supported countrywide by hunts, with packs in all areas taking part. Hunts will give both people who ride — and those who don’t — the opportunity to hunt and see what it’s all about.

For further information on hunting week (hunts or participants) please visit the Newcomers Week pages on the CA website http://www.countryside-alliance.org.uk/hunting-campaigns/hunting-events/try-hunting-for-free!/

Happy Hunting!

How many people mention shows and sponsored rides ect. They are doing exactly the same and no one is trying to make money out of it.

Its a shame that the link doesn't take you to participating hunts just all hunts, for those with a number of hunts in their area it would be very useful.

Also I would feel a bit embarrassed ringing local secretaries to ask if they were doing it and if they said no having to say oh ok I won't bother then.

As said by ester can we please have a link to those that are participating even if its just the names of the hunts?

this forum is called "Horse and HOUND"......

Maybe I've looked in the wrong part of the forum, but I've not seen advertising for sponsored rides or fun rides?

Only people saying they are planning to go to this or that.

A local riding centre advertised an event they were having on here and it was pulled up as advertising. I am simply saying that I don't see the difference.

Sorry if I am wrong, it just seems like double standards to me. Perhaps the rule is that if it's free, it's not advertising..?

Thanks C_A, us newbies would find that very useful, then we can be brave and phone up secretaries!!

justajiffy, this has already been reported in the horse and hound I think an I expect CA have agreed this with admin. I also think as it is advertising a free opportunity it wouldn't contravene T+Cs anyway.

I imagine as it is a free event it does not count as advertising, plus as already said H &H do a lot with the CA, so are happy for it to be put on. Great idea to have a free newcomers day, I am sure previously a cap has been paid.

Hello again

For all you who are worried about calling hunt secs, there is no need to be - they are all friendly, helpful and lovely! I promise!!!

If you are worried, you can search your local hunt on the MFHA website www.mfha.org.uk (by county) and then use the very handy online form to contact them...or the AMHB have the same facility www.amhb.co.uk. If you are close to a Staghound pack, please email hunting@countryside-alliance.org.

The MFHA = The Masters of Foxhounds Association
The AMHB = The Association of Masters of Harriers and Beagles.

Hi,

The first time this was posted a few of us said that we'd love to go but don't have suitable horses to take. The original poster said she'd try to find out about hireling horses close to each pack and maybe even see if they could offer a discount-do you have any more information about this?

Thanks

Hi

If you let me know where you live, I will find you a pack/hirelings.

I was interested in this- again one of those who was without a suitable horse tho'. Sadly the website links aren't working for me (think it's because I'm in firefox not IE)
But if anyone knows if the Atherstone will be joining in, and of any hirelings/horses I can borrow, please let me know

Either Bristol or Leicestershire area, I'd prefer Leicester though as I'm up there a lot at weekends and I'd probably have to travel to Somerset or Glos to find my nearest pack down here.

I've been cubbing with the Atherstone several times so would be interested in seeing if they're taking part. Either that or the Fernie perhaps?

They are, I have sent you a message

Do let me know if you end up going with the Atherstone, I've been cubbing with them before but don't know anyone who hunts with them, and it would be nice to have someone to meet up with!

Tobey- that sounds good to me- I've only ever been to a couple of meets on foot ages ago, didn't follow either, so would be all on my own. If I can find a horse/the money for a hireling I'll definitely be going, so will pm and let you know if something comes up

Thank you loopyloop & chaps89. By the way, loopyloop, I'm a facebook friend of yours, your horse is Kharna right? I've never actually met you in real life but you've commented before on some photos of my grey horse Angel rolling in the field!
