Right, I need ideas from you clever lot!!! I already organise the hunt show, but am wanting fresh and original ideas for an autumn event - something unusual and different that would attract a good crowd... I'm thinking along the lines of mock hunts/team chases(nothing huge but a basic fun one?)/midnight steeplechases/team relays... so... think out of the box and tell me what you get!! And all you south east lot tell me what you want - I could also try a newcomers to hunting day or something similar Also anyone who has organised these kind of things before are more than welcome to stick their hands up and tell me what I'm letting myself in for!! xxxx

Fancy dress midnight steeplechase - all the teams have to dress up in outrageous outfits!! Could do terrier racing before hand - fun kids dog race maybe on leads and £1-£2 entry fee - have a bucking bronc and a first prize for whoever stays on the longest. Something for children as they'll usually be given £5 each from their parents so you want to be able to knab it! BBQ and see if you can sponsored by a local butcher or farmer for the bangers and burgers. £2 a hot dog £2.50 for a burger. Bar - very important for the adults. You should be able to hire a cooler unit from your local pub and buy barrels through your landlord for beer. Happens in village pubs anyway!! Maybe get the wine from supermarket when on offer or through your local brewery (try landlord again!!) We had wellie throwing at our village bash and that was very successful with the local males. I think the prize was the other wellie to the one they were throwing again could charge a little entry fee - only need a tape measure for that one!

I am about to organise my first charity ball!! Think we're letting ourselves in for a lot!!!!

Hound racing over straw bales, do a race card with names and form and colours. Get people to bet on each race and put different coloured ribbons on each hound. Lots of entertainment but need to enclose the track or hounds end up in the burger van!

there's pleasure rides, BBQ's, barn dances, race nights, terrier/dog shows with novelty classes, guess the weight of the (insert something that can be used as a prize e.g. side of beef), we run a 100 club (you sell 100 tickets at £5 each and then draw one a month during the hunting season, the winner get £15, the runner up gets £5), we have 2 hunt balls (one end of season and one mid summer, one run by the hunt supporters club and one run by "the masters" although in reality its the HSC again).....need any more ideas?

Love the midnight steeplechase idea, and the hound racing!! (Having never been a midnight steeplechase, only heard about them, if anyone could explain exact details that would be great!!) The hunt holds lots of regular events like the balls and parties, but I'm happier organising people and ponies so I thought I'd try and think up something a little different!! :) Keep the ideas coming!!
