Hiya, this is the first time I've posted in the hunting forum as I know how feisty it can be, so please don't shoot me down in flames!!
I just have a query after reading the article in this weeks H&H news regarding the conduct of Hunt Monitors.
My understanding from the article is that they can film people out hunting with no prior consent - including children. I do not hunt myself, but have followed on foot occasionally, and plan to follow my friends daughter this season. I am appalled that any old person can just turn up with a video camera and film her.
I fail to understand how this can be allowed, when people have been cautioned for photographing their own children in a park, or stopped videoing their nativity plays etc.
I'm not trying to start a row, but I genuinely don't understand how the hunt monitors get away with it.
Surely anyone could turn up, videoing the children claiming to be 'monitors'.
Of course I'm not suggesting hunt monitors are all paedo's!! I'm just amazed they get away with it.
H xx

I think the law says that you can photograph (which will include video) in any public area without requiring consent. The limits on plays etc is normally on private land. Mind you - many hunts are on private land too!

It is a great fallacy that it is forbidden by law to video children, the rulings where schools do not permit videoing of school plays come from their own child protection policy rather than the law.

Sorry, I know it isn't pleasant to be videoed or photograped by monitors when you are legally hunting, but unless they intimidate you or are trespassing there is no legal recourse.
