I'm looking for a horse on loan that I can hunt in the winter and hack out/school and do some local shows in the summer. I've always had my own horse in the past - so don't really know anything about loaning a horse. I'm likely to be sent overseas for work in a year or two so don't want to be tied to owning one. Any advice would be great on where to find an owner that wouldn't mind their horse being hunted. The obvious place to go would be local hunt but I'm new to Essex area so don't have a horsy network and not known to the local hunt......so in a bit of a catch 22 position until I get a horse. I'm in my mid 30s. I have hunted a lot in the Scottish Borders and gone all the way through Pony Club. I have my stage 3 and had my own horse from age 5.

how much hunting and what sort of country is it? also how tall are you? i have a 15.2hh I'm thinking of loaning out - he is an amazing hunter but due to an injury I'd rather he wasn't out every week in deep mud or jumping huge fences for hours on end. He can do hacking/dressage/showing as well and he loves fun rides. He wont show jump though and he's not an old plod - he can be spooky esp in the dressage arena. Lovely chap though.

I am only 5.4 so not looking for a big horse. What kind injury does your horse have? If it's a tendor or anything like that I probaly wouldn't be that comfortable hunting him anyway. To be honest its hunting I'm really wanting to get back into and do enjoy jumping. I'm not that into showjumping but would want to be able to take him round a cross country course. I guess the boggy terrain depends on how much rain we get - I'm looking at going with the Warrickshire as a few of my friends already hunt with them - or somewhere closer to me in Essex.

he damaged a ligament in his stifle. he is fine to hunt again, but probably doesn't want to go to someone who only wants to hunt as I think it would be better for him to just go out every few wks rather than week in week out all season.

I was offered a horse on loan last winter that the owner just wanted hunted to bring it on and give it experience so there are people out there that loan hunters. hope you find what you're looking for.
