ok crew, what class (hunter/riding horse) do you think my boy is best suited to? He is 16.1/2 hh, though not terrifically big. Photo is of judge riding him at Northumberland county show this weekend where he did ok, though not placed.

He did really well as a youngster in hand in hunter classes, but judges don't seem to look at him sooo much now, though all comments are complimentary.

He is still improving under saddle, so as I say, mainly advice as to what class/ what type he is?

Riding horse. He's not really big enough or carrying enough condition to be a hunter - but don't worry about the condition remark. I'm happy to see a nicely covered, fit-looking horse whose conformation isn't buried under a shedload of fat. He looks lovely!

Oh stuff the showing and sell him to me

Does he jump? Workers?

Just out of curiosity....how much more condition should the horse have? As he seems well covered there, and I wouldnt think you would want much more weight on him.

It alway puzzles me this showing lark, as a REALY hunter is never as fat as those in the show ring, so its rather daft really.

Riding horse. I think his condition is just about right for his size and frame - lovely bloom to his coat.
Looks like he has a good temperament too, maybe you caught him at a bad moment, but the ride judge doesn't look the most talented rider I've ever seen (ducks for cover as he's probably someone's husband or son!)

ironhorse, i was just thinking the same. I think he's going nicely to say how that rider is sat on him. He's a gorgeous boy, and soooo shiny! No good at advice for what classes as i don't show, but he's really lovely.

Freckles Mum, I agree with you on the topline and it is coming! He is a bit tight at the bottom of his neck there, when he is more relaxed he looks more up and through if you like, but I can see his neck improving along with his work.

For those of you wondering about the judge, I do know him as I used to team chase against him back in the day - Clive Storey, nice guy - and he is from a making horsies go fast over jumps background, as he is a succesful ptp jockey and trainer. I believe he hunts rather a lot! I think Gully's big warmblood trot caught him out a little to begin with!
